Boris said that if I'm writing all these recipes for human food then I ought to write this one too, he likes it at this time of year and over the winter, but not so much in summer as it goes off to fast even in the fridge.
I brought him up on this and he's a healthy cat, its unlikely he will ever get type 2 diabetes that so many cats suffer from because tinned food has so much sugar in it. Being obligate carnivores this satisfys their need for meat. The vet has said this is an excellent diet for him.
4x500g packs of chicken or turkey mince
400g chicken livers
a crust of bread or a grated carrot, some brocolli
The idea is to make a prey animal, so thats why its a mix of muscle and organ meat with enough grain or vegetable as would be found in the stomach of a prey animal.
Tip the mince into a large bowl.
Put the liver in a food processor and whizz up until fairly smooth and tip into the bowl with the mince. Now whizz up the bread and/or vegetable and add to the bowl. Now for the fun or gross part depending on your sensitivities, mix the whole lot up with your hands, giving it a good squeeze and kneed to get it well mixed, it should have a soft spreadable consistency, if it seems to loose add a bit more bread, mashed potato, or left over rice to firm it up a bit. Put into tupperware containers and store, it freezes well, I keep a pot in the fridge and Boris loves it on a bed of cat biscuits, for a bit of added crunch and to help keep his teeth clean.
Some adult cats won't eat it as most cats will only eat what they've been given by thier mothers, human and feline in thier first 12-16 weeks of life. Maybe try your cat on a bit of raw burger or something to see if they're up for raw food, or if they turn away in disgust. I used to have a couple of little papillon dogs, one of whom, was disabled both mentally and physically, they both enojoyed this food and it helped the disabled one both physically and mentally.
