Just an observation

I have searched and cannot seem to find any information about Prof Jason Ardey anywhere in the online community. I find this whole thing a bit disturbing. To me it highlights the public discomfort about autism.

I ran a quick search today, what strikes me about this most is how the media has been used/weaponised by people attempting to discredit him. Any one with an opinion is able to post vicious unsubstantiated information to try and influence someone’s career. Questioning the level of his autism and his abilities.

As someone who has been pressurised by others at work and school I find this shocking and abusive.

The elephant in the room is autism. I'm not looking to start a debate there are things about this which hit me right at the core.

  • I made a comment about poor Jason a few days ago but it was buried in another thread. Perhaps people are too weary and saddened by other things to comment?

I think what comes out of this, is that there should be an inquiry as to why he wasn't given more pastoral support by Cambridge. Yes, they have to be rigorous about research but that is a separate issue. They must have known how long this had gone on, and the effect it was sure to be having on a shy autistic man, whose whole world was academia. Simon Baron Cohen spoke with Jason a few days before the suicide - Jason said he was exhausted by the whole thing. Surely that must have triggered concern?

  • addendum - just read that an Inquiry is being called for. CAUTION - this artlcle contains distressing detail.
