A moving series of 5 documentaries about sex change [male to female] - warning contains difficult content

Warning - this is a very emotional series and shows sex change operations.

I was looking for something to watch on i-player and unexpectedly came across this very moving series, ' A Change of Sex' about Julia Grant's [RIP] journey to find her identity; from a difficult childhood in which, as George, she had to care for her siblings. I watched all 5 in one go, as it was so rivetting. I thought it might be inspiring for anyone struggling with sexual identity. I knew very little of this subject but feel better informed, thanks to Julia's brave disclosures. The attitude of her first psychiatrist is shocking!

  • I remember watching this first time round.

It’s heartbreaking that people suffer for years before they can get help, but she got through it and must have inspired lots of other people in similar situations.

  • It's a difficult subject because in a smaller amount of case it gets rushed through which is what can lead to cases of people wanting to detranstion which is a much harder thing to do

I also think tik tok has a lot to so with people rushing into because at one point it did become a trendy tbibg which is wrong people's lives should not be vie we'd as a fad or trend because it makes there struggles seem like a joke

  • There is a myth that that the sex transition process is rushed. Yes, a few people have regretted it but the process has become highly politicised and the myth perpetuated. I don’t think there is enough evidence to come to conclusions yet.

I don’t know any people who have gone through sex transition. I used to see a bus driver on a route near my home in the 1970s who had gone through much of the transition process. I believe she died a few years ago, without having had the final surgical procedure.

  • I knew a girl years ago who had fully transitioned she was a lovely girl and it was nice that she opened up about her story to me

This was before the whole media hysteria too although th coverage has done a tiny tiny bit of good we mostly got rid of the offensive terms for trans people

The internwt harms the image of the communiry as it only shows the less than 1% who make their gender their whole personality and then on the flip side to that you have the cis people. Saying oh I'll come. Out as straight... They are again making being cis and straight they're epraobaliyy and it looks bad for the normal rational people from both community
