A moving series of 5 documentaries about sex change [male to female] - warning contains difficult content

Warning - this is a very emotional series and shows sex change operations.

I was looking for something to watch on i-player and unexpectedly came across this very moving series, ' A Change of Sex' about Julia Grant's [RIP] journey to find her identity; from a difficult childhood in which, as George, she had to care for her siblings. I watched all 5 in one go, as it was so rivetting. I thought it might be inspiring for anyone struggling with sexual identity. I knew very little of this subject but feel better informed, thanks to Julia's brave disclosures. The attitude of her first psychiatrist is shocking!

  • It's a difficult subject because in a smaller amount of case it gets rushed through which is what can lead to cases of people wanting to detranstion which is a much harder thing to do

I also think tik tok has a lot to so with people rushing into because at one point it did become a trendy tbibg which is wrong people's lives should not be vie we'd as a fad or trend because it makes there struggles seem like a joke

  • Yes Im sure she did. The story of April Ashley is heartbreaking, the cost to her and indeed the trans world at large utterly dreadful.

Check out Jan Morris too. She is deceased now but transitioned bravely from James, a very well known writer and explorer, to Jan, also a well known and excellent writer. Her autobiography about her transition is called Connundrum but very dated now. Ive read some of her geography /travel books and Trieste is my favourite, her descriptive prose redolent of history and past writers, she just makes me want to go there so very much.
