Body temperature

Does anyone else find they cant regulate their body temperature or that your bodies send mixed messages?

I find I go really hot when I need a number 2 or sometimes that makes me feel really tired.

I have had the hot flushes for a while but now old enough for it to possibly be perimenopause.  Doctor won't get HRT as says I am too young at 47.

  • Hi and welcome to the community.

I'm in my mid sixties and post menopausal, so I've been through it. I started having symptoms at around the age you are and my GP ordered a blood test which confirmed I was in perimenopause. So if you haven't had a blood test, perhaps discuss that with your GP.

I have always had problems regulating my body temperature - I mostly suffer with being too cold, although very high temperatures can make me feel unwell. My comfortable range is very narrow - around 22-26 degrees Celsius.

  • I operate comfortably in a reasonably narrow band 12-22C, anything on either side of that I start to struggle.

  • My temperature is up and down, it's funny I didn't know that could also be 'a thing' for autistic folk till I heard someone talking about struggling to control their temperature on a podcast.

I've had two hot flush moments this year (from previously none), and I'm only 41. Though it could have been anything for me, it's really unpleasant and it's rubbish if your doctor didn't do anything helpful -even if they didn't think it was peri, shouldn't they be trying to figure out what it is then?

I looked on the NHS site,  www.nhs.uk/.../ and it says:

    • "It usually affects women between the ages of 45 and 55, but it can happen earlier."

So I don't understand why your doctor refused to talk about it with you? The very least would be have a conversation about the options and not dismiss you. Very unhelpful, like TheCatWoman said, your could try asking for a second opinion. I've heard other mums talking about your diet can help?

Someone made a post about menopause on the forum, if you search you should find it?

I don't know if it's relevant, but there is a postcast called 'What's Up Docs', and that had an episode called 'menopause -is hrt for you?' it was interesting to learn more about it all, as I think knowledge from good sources is helpful.

  • It does sound a bit lile perimenopause, I couldn't get any sense out my doctors either, so I went to a medical herbalist, who asked lots of questions about my health in general and why I was there in particular, she mixed me up a combination of herbs which didn't taste particularly nice, but really helped. A lot of things I'd been living with for years suddenly felt a bit better too.

There are other options than HRT which dosen't suit everyone and some people can't have, it can also be a bit of a sledge hammer to crack a nut thing too, sometime even the lower dose will feel like to much

  • Hi Magnolia1,

Whilst I am unable to answer your post directly I thought I would share our menopause guide Menopause in case this is useful.  Hopefully some of our members will be able to offer some personal experience.

    I hope this helps.
