Emotions

Hello, recently I have had a lot going on in my home life and have found myself overwhelmed. I have been feeling weighed down with other people's emotions and feelings in tough situations and is intense. I am diagnosed recently with autism and wondering if anybody else has this and if there are any ways to cope or navigate through this. Thank you.

    I am sorry to hear that your home life is difficult at the moment. It's understandable that you're feeling overwhelmed especially when the upset is in the place where you should feel safe and secure.

    I don't like upset even when I'm not directly involved it still makes me feel uneasy. I think I can definitely start to feel other people's feelings especially if they are going through a tough time. 

    Could you tell the person how overwhelmed you feel, or could you take yourself away from the situation, maybe go for a walk or go to your room or put your headphones on.

    I like to keep to a routine especially during stressful periods, just a simple one it really helps calm and regulate.

    I hope things start to improve soon.
