PIP Question

Has anyone applied for pip and been refused, to find things discussed by the assessor were left out of their decision?  I am just wondering if automatic refusal is the norm for anyone. Do they not recognise sensory disability or autism as a disability at all?

  • I've just been informed that my PIP assessment will be over the telephone.   Any hints will be welcome.  And I wonder why by phone rather than in person, especially since I wrote that I find phone calls difficult to deal with.

  • Hello Robert.

I think quite a few people now work from home which could be why it will be a phone call conversation. You need to think about your worst day and what you struggle with. Unfortunately, having a job, using public transport and being able to bath/shower or cook something to eat can go against you. They see it that you’re managing dad to day life, presume that anxiety isn’t bothering you as you can do these things. I’m sure they are told to reject applications just to save money so no matter what you say, this could happen. I burst out crying and he didn’t show any empathy at all. I do go to work but I’m so overwhelmed that I can’t function at home or eat properly and my anxiety stops me going out but because I have a job and have to use public transport, they gave me zero points for everything.
I would contact Citizen’s Advice Bureau for guidance and make notes in advance of everything you struggle with.
    Good luck!
