Sleep, energy, time, diet, love, life and your husbands and wives.

Turkey contains the amino acid tryptophan which the body uses to to produce seretonin and melatonin a hormone concerned in regulating the circadian rythem and aiding a good restfull nights sleep and when caebohydrates are eaten alongside turkey the positive effects it has on sleep wake chemistry and the circadian rythem are increased. Now that its approaching bonfire night you may be looking forward to preparing cooking and eating such delicaciesas as traditional lancashire black peas and the like which are made with dried black peas onion carrot celery salt and malt vinigar to taste, black peas if cooked and eaten alone especially of an evening may keep you awake all night long as i did discover in my eagerness and to my detriment not so many moons ago so now on my second approching my second attempt after firstly lerning from my mistakes and with some personal lived experience in the bank so to speak im reaserching my next effort and considering taking the traditional lancashire black pea recipy and adding some turkey meat to the dish or even making two pots one standard for walking aroundband keeping awake alert and energised and another for calming down relaxing and preparing to sleep with added turkey meat and as the national autistic society curently studying into sleep and diet then it may be helpul if some people take the oppertunities that this season provides to conduct some research into foods whow they work together and if they work in the same way or differenty depending on the time of day that they are eaten and if it is possible that there is a way in which to place foods in order working in conjunction with the rididngand falling of the sun that would help people who strugle with sleep, energy levels and if it could also help aligne the senses and reduce sensory overoad and other troublesome issues that are a hindrence to many a man and his wife such as the dreaded IBS a killer of romace in the short termand in many cases long term loving relationships.

Can turky meat be added to the bog standard traditional lancashire black pea recipie as it is or is there a need to add other ingrediants when cosidering sleep ?

  • Hi

I can only answer this on a taste level.

The Lancashire  back eyed pea recipe sounds yummy. I have a memory of Sara Cox mentioning this recipe on her radio 2 show at some point.

Personally I think turkey would add to the flavour. Although would one sort of cancel out the other, so to speak. The turkey may help with sleep, but I know from experience dried pulses can be terrible for my IBS, this keeping me up at night.

Thanks for the heads up about turkey helping sleep.

I think I may try this recipe but just have small portion. Hopefully it won't aggravate my IBS.

  • I'm not sure I've ever heard of Lancashire Black Pea soup or it's seasonality.

Being vegetarian turkey isn't something I'd eat.

I'm also having problems relating the thread title to the body of the post, for some reason I expected somethng much more than a recomendation for an obscure soup!
