Visual stress - spatial distortion

Hi,

This morning not for the first time as I was leaving the house I suffered visual distortions from a striped fabric.  The stripes were 1cm thick, blue and white.  The whole garment began to fizz and undulate and then spin down.  I looked away and looked back and the distortion reoccurred.

I have had this before but not in light of adult diagnosis.  I investigated a bit and this seems to be linked to visual stress of teh kind dyslexics have.  I am not dyslexic but mildly dyspraxic.  My eyesight is a mystery to opticians however and I have given up on precription glasses.

Can anyone provide some ASD-specific guidance on this.  Is this ASD, or is this some aspect of a comorbid diagnosis brought on by recent stress (on top of everything else I had dental surgery yesterday which was horrendous)

Thanks

Jakob

  • I saw this recently which talks about visual problems in connection to sensory issues and anxiety. It may not be what you are looking for or too basic, but i found it helpful. The reference to your visual disturbance is around 21 min's into the video.

Also I saw some research on hypermobility and ASD. Although not directed specifically to your issue it did talk about stress vulnerability. again disguard if you don't feel its relevent.

My point being that stress and ASD are linked, but so too are sensory issues and ASD.
