My brother has been to his gp, who basically just said "learn to live with it" and offered no help or support numbers.
Is there anything we can do?
He really needs help and no one seems interested in offering any.

I assume you mean your brother went to the GP seeking a diagnosis of autism or asperger's syndrome? Or do you mean he sought help with secondary issues or comorbid conditions already having a diagnosis?
GPs seem quite happy to behave badly over autism - so many correspoondents on here report such ignorant behaviour by GPs and they are supposed now to receive training under Think Autism.
If there is an autism diagnostic centre in your area approach them for advice. GPs cannot refuse to refer someone for a diagnosis.
However until someone in Government or Health Service administration takes the initiative to force GPs to behave, these abuses, negligences, and downright ignorant attitudes will continue. It might make a difference if GPs could be struck off for mis-advising on autism, but until something like that happens, I guess they'll carry on acting ignorant.
