My sons assessment next week. I'm anxious and thinking about it non stop! Advise plz

So my sons assessment is next week! I'm feeling so anxious about it because like his SENCO co-ordinator (who has been nothing but brilliant) said, it's important because although he's getting all the extra help he needs at primary school now, it will help put things in place for when he goes secondary school. I'm worried that they are not going to see what I see at home or the teachers at school see. My ds is very comfortable with me around. His eye contact is good now he is getting older. The school have done there report and I did the one they sent me and I also did my own home report going back to when he was born to now. The SENCO
co-ordinator Claire from his school has also offered to come with me. It is the school that have advised that I push this and get a diagnosis. They did the referral as long as I was happy. I'm so anxious as it has been a long wait.
  • Hi Sammy,

It sounds like you have the School on your side, which is always a good sign. The best advice I can give you is to jot down some areas that you want to speak about before you go to the meeting and take them in.

I get very worked up about meetings and invariably forget things as soon as the door closes behind me. Having a card with key info may help you as it sounds like you are quite anxious yourself. Remember eye contact alone isn't the only issue. Many on the spectrum have quite good eye contact.

I wish you luck. Keep us posted

    Regards
