Diagnosis and assessment for my 4 year old son

Good Evening,

Hopefully you'll be able to help my concern, After my son were just of 1 year of age he developed very differencely than my other 3 children now nearly 4 years old.

As doctors, nursery and health vistors adviced us to seek medical attention as they felt he were under the austism spectrum disorder anyway we finally seek seeing a pediatrician he which he were confirm to be somewhere on the spectrum and would send him to a austism spectrum disorder specialist team in which we have just recieved a letter stating he does not meet there criteria and wont remain on there waiting list and refer us back to our doctor then back to the pediatrcian.

How can this be ?

Why didnt we get to go to this meeting ASMPACT ?

  • Thank you for your reply.

I have contacted the assessment team in my area in which it were no fault of our own it were due to the temporary pediatrician which doesnt deal with austism spectrum disorder within the hospital sector who didnt furfil the information required for the assessment.

By all means it should have been done right in the first place, however they have arranged another appointment by a know proffessional which i can see this going to go forward for the assessment.

  • Hi,

Given that doctors, nursery staff, health vistors and a pediatrician have raised concerns, i would also ask your GP for a re-referral or a reconsideration of his condition by a different specialist. I'm not sure why you were not invited to any meeting pertaining to your sons condition, but it would appear to me you would be the best person to speak with about your son.

Get clarification from your GP as to the reasons and if you are not happy get re-referred and discuss your concerns with the pediatrician.

    Regards

  • I think your best bet is to go back to your gp and see if they've given him/her anymore detail as to why he doesn't meet their criteria.  It seems to be that every county does things differently in assessing ASD.
