Physiotherapy... again

I've been sent for physiotherapy again, I thought I was being sent for scans and follow ups, possibly for surgery as I have a bone chip in my shoulder joint, thats what the GP told me she was ordering, but the hospital have decided that instead of having scans etc, I will have to jump through the additional hoop fo seeing a phsyio before I can be sent for scans and maybe surgery.

I've seen phsyios before and to be honest I can't think what they will do to help, if they do anything at all, my experience of them is that they're useless and have no ambition for ther patients beyond being able to put your own underwear on. I was asked by one what core stength was and why I thought it important, one thought I was too strong and flexible to need her and that rolling out a mound of pastry I had to make for xmas visitors wasn't a good substitute for sitting at the table and rolling a walking stick backwards and forwards.

I think they see me as a problem because I used to do yoga and martial arts and still have a lot of strength and flexibility and some of the exercises they've asked me to do to increase mobility, are modified yoga exercises that I can already do to a higher level and without pain than they seem to have ever seen. I'm hardly a professional dancer, athlete or yoga teacher, but I find their attitude incomprehensible. Now I'm afraid I'm going to be stuck with one of these numpties as a gate keeper to whether I can have further treatment, I'm afraid I've already got some nerve damage to my right arm which has little strength and just gives up half way through a task.

I'm worried and fearful of what happens next.

  • I'm sorry to hear that you are feeling like this. I sympathise, as I've had neck and shoulder problems for years. Physio can be hit or miss in my experience. I first saw a physio around 20 years ago and she showed me some useful exercises that I still use today if I get pain and stiffness. But in 2020 I got a frozen shoulder which didn't respond to my usual exercises, so I saw a physiotherapist then but it didn't help - my GP said it would resolve itself in two years without treatment, and that's what happened.

In your case, if the physio doesn't help they should then carry on with the scans. I would suggest talking to your GP to ensure that happens.

Try not to let it get you down, I'm sure if you keep liasing with your GP they will get it investigated. I wish you luck.
