Local housing authority

Hello

Does anyone have any points of access or information regarding three housing by the local authority on medical grounds I am struggling to find someone to help I am struggling to explain how the property affects my autism where I currently live when the hours in officer just repeats the question how does it affect your autism, I mention levels outside from the residents talking banging laughing to late

All the smells from other residence the fact that I can't open a Windows because of this because we saw although in the semi circle and the noise echoes I'm being told that it's anti social behaviour keep diary of date and  times the issue is there neurotypical normal behavior I am the one that's not in sync as I am neurodiverse.

If I also complain it will just get worse and louder.

She also didn't give me an example which makes the question even outer to understand.

Thanks you

  • My Council is no different. It's actually scary that the very people creating policy according to laws and regulations around disability and autism, are the same people who do the complete opposite.
Life has taught me that you have to be proactive when trying to advocate for yourself, and it shouldn't be that way. However, speak to shelter first, let them know you've spoken to the council, who at no time have supported you or directed you to Occupational Therapy for an assessment. Also, my advice if you haven't done it already is to request (reasonable adjustment) that the council communicate with you by email only. Put that in writing to them, by email is fine, and send it to your housing officer too. Log everything and keep it organised for yourself by creating a folder in your email provider.

Hopefully you will speak to shelter soon, they have template letters for different things on their website so it might be worth a look while you wait.
    Good luck!

  • They do have ot but never offered it to me

There pretty useless at best of time even social workers I also don't find cab much use and we don't actually have a cab office mo been knocked down

  • Does your housing association/Council have an Occupational Therapy department, they should, so contact them and request an OT Assessment. I'm totally with you in regards to CAB. Despite laws and regulations I have found organisations very lacking still. I'm going through my own battle with my council landlords. But Shelter, they should be able to help you. Oh and check your housing authority's website for their own policies and procedures. What they do and how they behave is usually very different to what their policies say should happen.

  • I have to be honest my experience of citizen advice isn't great talking to them or dealing unless consumers rights.

I am going to contact shelter.

  • Hi  , I’m sorry you’re experiencing a difficult time at your property. You may find it useful speaking to Citizen’s Advice citizensadvice.org.uk. They may be able to advise you on what can be done.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,
