Beggar harrassing

There's a beggar (don't think he's homeless) who roams around just below where I live and whereas most people who beg tend to sit in one spot and rely on the kindness of strangers, this guy openly targets people, often running across the road to chase them for money.

Last night he spotted me from across the road, ran across and entered the shop I was in. He then proceeded to beg and harass me at the counter while I was talking to the checkout guy. I had to leave to stop him.

I've given to homeless people before and bought food etc, but this guy is too much for me and is overwhelming and invading my personal space.

I don't like confrontation and I don't like being rude to people but I think in this case I may have to be just to get him to leave me alone. It's getting to the point when I don't want to go to the shop at night in case he's there.

I've looked online for advice but I also feel really bad because he's obviously desperate, but I also wonder if he's faking as he appears to drop his speech impediment when he's around certain people. I don't know what to do.

  • City centre beggars are very common where I live, but it's the local one's that annoy me.

For a couple of years there was a young man outside the local hospital who always had the same story,  he was visiting his grandmother in hospital and needed money for his bus fare to get home.  Every day for around three years.

Then for over ten years there was an elderly woman always asking for 10pence.  She was out in all weather from about 6am to 10pm.  Always asking for 10 pence, crossing the round, almost getting runover, always wanted 10 pence.

These people need their heads examined.
