Skin removal

Hi everyone

I'm new to this forum

I wanted to ask if anyone has been through this

My son is 19 and was diagnosed with autism at 10 years old .

When he was 12 he started putting on a lot of weight.

When he was 16 he was 23 stone because he has been socially isolated for years and now he seems to have turned things around he lost 8 stone which was extremely difficult.

But he managed it and is now going to the gym but now has been left with excess skin which is getting him really down to the point of suicide.

He hates the way he looks

It's just another thing for him to cope with it's never ending he sorts one thing and then a whole load of new problems arise.

He needs to get surgery to remove the excess skin but it costs £9000

We don't have that kind of money and was wondering if anyone has been through the same thing and how they got help maybe tomorrow a charity or something.

I would appreciate any help as my son is getting extremely suicidal

And doesn't want to live like this anymore

Please can anyone help

Kind regards

  • Hi June, sorry to hear this. He needs to speak to his doctor if he is having suicidal feelings - that might change the decision about the NHS funding it, but if not hopefully he can still be helped with his mental health.

If you cannot get the skin removal surgery done on the NHS, you could try starting a go fund me page.

Also, it is not a good idea to put your full name in a post as it means you can be identified - it also breaks this forum's rules about anonymity, which are to protect us all.

I wish you luck and hope he can get the surgery done.
