What happens at the assessment?

Hello!

I've not yet been diagnosed but I am awaiting an assessment date and, to be honest, it's scaring me!

I'm anxious about being judged, looked at as if I'm a science project and being put on the spot.

Would they test my IQ (I can't do IQ tests because I get too distracted by the clock and if I see a question that puzzles me, I quit), my perception of the world, or be looking for flaws in any answer?

I'm not asking people to tell me exactly what will happen but just to let me know what to expect.

Thank you

E

  • No IQ test would be done normally.  You may have a tool such as the Adult Asperger's Assessment used (AAA) which includes Baron-Cohen's AQ and EQ quotient tests.  They will ask you about your difficulties, including back into your childhood and about your interactions with others.  Every assessment is very individual though, they vary so much because there is no NHS rule about how they must be done.  There is the NHS NICE Guidance but it is not enforced or policed.
