  • They aren't done routinely in the vast majority if not all, areas.  There needs to be a specific indication for one due to the cost.

  • Hi Jo,

Did you hav ethe genetic testing done yourself? our son has recently completed assessments but I dont think any genetic testing was undertaken

  • Hi Jo

My daughter has a likely genetic condition based on physical differences however they haven't been able to pinpoint exactly what.  She had the testing done when she was 7 or 8 and her dna is still on file in case anything comes up.

She recently had an ASD diagnosis at the age of 13.  I think the genetic condition probably took the emphasis away from her different behaviour and she masked her anxietys very well until recently (as do many girls on the spectrum).  Her Senco did tell me when I mentioned that we were going for an ASD assessment, that certain genetic conditions can give ASD like traits however the consultant told me she had a clear diagnosis of ASD and SPD and that the genetic condition probably just accounted for her physical differences and her lower than average IQ.  Not sure if that helps?
