Has anybody read any good books lately?

What sort of books do people read?

At bedtime, I have to read a light novel on the kindle - something like Victoria Hislop, Santa Montefiore, Maggie O’Farrell, Kate Atkinson, Claire Keegan.  If reading during the day, it would usually be something factual. I have just finished ‘God an Anatomy’ by Francesca Stavrakopoulou’, which explores ancient beliefs in the Levant from pre Biblical times, and considers how they have shaped western society. The book has been acclaimed by religious and non religious alike, and the author is a non believer. I am now reading ‘The World Before Us’ by Tom Higham. The author is a Professor of Scientific Archaeology and has done much work on the emergence of Homo Sapiens. It is fascinating stuff.

  • I'm currently reading "The Undead" by RR Haywood. I didn't think I'd like a book about zombies, but it's more than that. It's set in a post apocalyptic world where a virus turns people into zombies, but it's intelligent and evolves, and the remaining uninfected humans have to try to survive while trying to build new communities and cooperate and share resources. It's gory, but nteresting.

A few months back I read most of the books in the Middle Falls time travel series by Shawn Inmon. The characters are taken back to an earlier time in their life at the point of their death, to relive it and see if they can have a better outcome.

In recent months I've also read some novels set in the first & second world wars by authors such as Rosie Clarke, and some thrillers by Freida McFadden.

  • Oh my goodness! ‘The Undead’ sounds scary. I have never managed to watch a Sci-fi movie or read anything of that genre. Watching Dr Who (not quite the same thing) many moons ago, is the nearest I have come to it, but even the music sent me running out of the room as a child. I checked out Shawn Inman and Rosie Clarke on Amazon. The plot of the Inman novel looks interesting but I think I’ll put Rosie Clarke on the reading list for now.
