Newly diagnosed

Hi all, I am the mother of a newly diagnosed 8 year old boy. Where do I go from here, where do I start? I have been into school and spoken to the SENCO, who will get the ball rolling in school, and be setting things in place. I guess I just wondered what else I should be doing? I had so much information thrown at me the other week, that it took me a day or two to get over the shock. I was shocked even though I was half expecting the diagnosis. My boy has always been very different to other kids his age, but part of me was still shocked to learn just how different. I had no idea his world was quite so confusing, but I'm so proud of him Smile

Any advice?

ETA he is high functioning ASD

  • Hello....My son is three and just been confirmed. I too struggle to know what more i can do to support him but he is as yet to be put in  placement so i will be dealing with SENCO pretty soon.......the only advise i have is to keep talking :-)

Seek out like minded parents and perhaps look into a local support group, it's a minefield of chaotic  and mis-information. I started a file for autism based info so i can referre back to it if needed.

I hope very much you get some answers soon.....but i think you know very well how well you are doing....and should be very proud of yourself :-)
