Hi my son was diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum on 30th June by a speech therapist for autism, she has said that I will get another appt in 6-8 weeks time and he will be seen by a second specialist for diagnosis.  She says that the diagnosis has to be made by 2 people.  Help is this correct?  I feel like I am having to wait longer when I could and should be getting help.  Please advise.

  • This is correct in my area too ..my son has been seen by the paediatrition and is now waiting to see the speech therapist although as far as the paed is concerned she is 100% sure that he is asd but after full assessment it will be determined whether aspergers or high functioning . We have already been referred and seen by social work and OT but still waiting for speeech Full diagnosis can take up to 1 year , but until then "He must be treated as has autism "
