Adult diagnosis in lincolnshire ? where?

Hi im 19 and i think i have aspergers syndrome, i have all the symptoms and i have been to my GP a few times for a diagnosis, my GP says i have aspergers too but she can not find anyone that can provide a formal diagnosis. so iv decided to try and find someone privately.

I live in North Lincolnshire, Does anybody know anyone that mght be able to help me ? I am going to university in september and i want to ensure i get the help i need to make it easier for me to cope away from home.

any feedback would be great, or anyone else experiencing it hard to find someone to give a diagnosis ?

thanks

  • I believe my 18 year old daughter has Asperger's syndrome and have done for a couple of years, I tried to get an assessment via the GP over a year ago to no effect, she has been under the mental health team for 2 years with a diagnosis of social anxiety but has since developed more serious mental health problems. They seem to think she has Asperger's too and want to have an assessment to decide what part of her behaviour is this and what part is a mental health issue but there seems to be some confusion as to who will refer her for assessment and to whom. Can anyone advise me who performs these assessments on adults and how it can be acheived?

  • hi, first reply here..hope it works.

I asked about private diagnosis and was told it can be very expensive compared to the more usual psychiatrist diagnosis.

If your GP supports you I would hope they can refer you to the area mental health team. I waited only 6 weeks for an appointment and was seen by both a clinical psychologist and a consulting psychiatrist - very thorough about 2 hours in total with a 20 min break in the middle.

  • Hi Larcoz,

Sorry to hear you've had these problems trying to get a diagnosis. On the website we have a directory of local services. You can see all the results for Lincolnshire and see what is available.

The results for diagnosis didn't seem too helpful for you as an adult I'm afraid but you might want to contact the advocacy groups in the area. They may have a lot of experience supporting people to find a diagnosis

You can perform a search here:

    http://www.autism.org.uk/directory

You might also find it helpful to look out our section on the website about diagnosis this information may help steer you towards people who can help.

Hopefully other people in the Community can help as well and maybe discuss how they were diagnosed.
