Ongoing battle for diagnosis

Hi,

I posted last year regarding my ongoing battle with my GP for referral for assessment for Aspergers Syndrome.  To cut a long story short, I have received two "assessments", neither carried out by a specialist in the field.  The two reports could not be more contradictory - one stating that I do display the classic signs of Aspergers but at my age (63) it is not possible to make a diagnosis, the other report is from a psychiatrist stating I show no signs whatsoever.

Having complained to my local NHS board I have finally received confirmation that my GP will refer me for a second(?) opinion.  I would really appreciate some guidance here as to how to proceed.  I feel that so far I have been totally fobbed-off and if it happens again I think I may crack up!  Am I in a position to specify where I wish to be assessed?  I would like my GP to refer me to the Lorna Wing Centre in Bromley as I understand they specialise in assessment for women.  I live in East Sussex so I do not know if it is possible or acceptable to refer to a different area.

Any advice most welcome, and thank you Intense World for getting me this far!
