I'm worried my son may have autism. So after some advice is it worth me pushing for an assessment or not?
My son is dx with Ehlers danlos syndrome, global developmental delay and sensory issues. In the back of my mind I just know there is something else, and i wonder if its ASD. I've spoke to SALT and HV and they say definitly not, I've been reading more today and I think the reason they say not is his imaginary play is very good, and he tries to get my attention one of them said. He does however have speech delay, he looses the plot big time if his routine is changed, he gets obsessed with certain toys, will only drink from certain cups, eat from certain plates. He would play for hours by himself and is happiest this way. He does mix with other kids a little but tends to play along side them still, or just run around with them or copy them, he doesnt get sharing although this is slowly improving. If you touch him and he doesnt want to be touched he growls, he will only cuddle on his terms and with people he knows really really well. He has no empathy at all, he really doesnt get it and if someone is hurt he just dismisses it or sometimes laughs. Some of the stuff I've read about the traid he doesnt seem to fit and others maybe he does, but its all the other stuff, do they have to fit in all 3 triads to have ASD?
Oh and hes just 4 and has no sign at all of toilet training, he did have a wee on the loo at preschool just once by flook, and since then if anyone tries him again he looses the plot.
I dont really know much about ASD so just looking for advice really, I'm sure the HV and SALT especially deals with ASD kids, and shes very lovely and supportive and I trust her, so not sure what to think or do.
