Skin picking

Anyone struggle with skin picking I do it most mornings and when I'm stressed or anxious. I was doing it whilst on a phone call, I think too much noise and talking stresses me out. I had a telephone assessment with talking therapy and asmed them if they offer written communication instead of telephone calls, she said they can't do that :/ so I'm not sure if I wanna do it. I might just ask if they can send me any info/tips on how to stop skin picking but I don't think they'll know, they just use CBT model.

  • I struggle with this. I pick the skin on my fingers, on my hands and my lips. It often results in bleeding and soreness. One thing you can do that might help a bit is cutting your fingernails as it makes picking a little harder.

I've done this all my life, I'm 27 now and can remember doing it as a child as well. I think it's related to anxiety and autism, my sister does this as well and so does my mum. We all have autism.

  • I used to bite my nails terribly, and even now I can't let them go past m fingertips. I do pick skin sometimes, but this often bleeds and hurts, so I try not to. I do pick my feet though. Gross, I know.
