Complete loss of appetite

Hello there,

My 10 year old son is awaiting an assessment, and we are logging behaviours that seem like markers to us. This week, he started the week with a mild, unsettled stomach, which has resulted in him completely losing his appetite. He has been completely back to his normal self since Wednesday, but he cannot bring himself to eat a thing. He hasn’t had more than a bite of toast each day all week.

I’m getting a bit worried, as he has always looked forward to his next meal as soon as he has finished one, and makes it known his annoyance if we skip a meal. He is quite a picky eater, has issues with textures and smells but he’s really done well recently to push his own food boundaries and try new things. I’m worried that he will feel like he’s gone back 10 steps. He seems back to his regular self, albeit a bit lacking in energy.

Is this a common behaviour to look out for? I’m not concerned about his weight, as he is a strong, growing 10 year old, but I obviously would like to help him out of this soon if I can. I’ve tried all his favourite foods, but he gets overwhelmed as soon as he sees a plate.

If anyone has any experience of this, or any advice, I’d really appreciate hearing for you.
