Absolutely dreading appointment at optician's tomorrow

Because of recent damage to my eye my mum is making me go to the optician's tomorrow, which I get but at the same time I am terrified and dreading it!

Last time I went they puffed air in my eye and then came this huge flash. I'm not epileptic thank god but flashes like that make me feel awful, normally to the extent I'll pass out and feel very very sick. I'm not sure what that is, meltdown or shutdown?

I know I feel really bad after it. Happens to me every time, without fail.

Any advice and suggestions on how to get through tomorrow without a show of complete embarrassment would be helpful and appreciated at this anxious time.

The appointment is tomorrow at midnday.

  • I had similar this year during an eye test. The sheer number of changes to the letters, all accompanied by the question "which one is sharper". Sensory overload and my existing double vision just went haywire, sending me into a meltdown. The eye test couldn't be completed and my wife and the staff (Specsavers) had to help me out of the store.

I have been back since then and explained my condition to them and I cannot fault the caring and professional way in which they helped me. So, my advice is to let them know how your anxiety and how you have reacted before. If they are any good then they will be very accommodating.

    GOOD LUCK!
