asd assessment

hi just wondered if anyone could tell me what to expect from my sons appointment tomorrow. he is 11 yrs old and is having the first of an asd assessment all i know is that i have to talk with a member from the camhs team and that he has to go in another room with 3/4 other proffessionals for an hour. will he have other appointments after or will this be the only one he has? and will they tell me tomorrow if he has an asd disorder or do they make you wait? im stressing now as ive struggled to get him to whhere he is now and he is soo stressed with not going to school and going to another centre for his appointment with people he doesnt know.  thankyou for listening to me

  • ok thankyou he has already had assssments from occupational therapist, speech therapist and play therapist which all have done reports so hopefully he should be done tomorrow  after trying to get a diagnosis for the last 8 years. then i can start with his younger brother who was diagnosed a month ago with food neophobia which is usually diagnosed after a diagnosis of autism or adhd but thankyou again for ur reply

  • If it's a clear cut case they should tell you at that appointment (do ask outright if they are wishy-washy or don't say, you shouldn't have to wait for a letter).

If they are unsure or want further observations or anything unfortunately it will mean a wait until they have conducted the rest of it.
