Assessment

Hi there - I am a 57 yr old female still waiting for an assessment after 2 years nearly - so frustrating - 4 of my family were diagnosed privately but I cannot afford that sort of money - I am at a dead end as PALS just told me what I had been told numerous times - I have to wait - why are adults forgotten ? I have found life so very hard and as I get older   It seems to feel harder - any tips ? I would be very grateful - Sylvia

  • Talk to your GP again??

At the same time as referring me for assessment (yes, I gather through the NHS I'd be in for a marathon wait too), mine also referred me to Mind Adult Autism Services.  I spoke to them and they run courses for people waiting for assessment.  They apparently give you an opportunity to meet other people in the same situation, help you sort out what might be the difference between any MH issues and the effects of autism and introduce you to ideas like energy accounting - all good stuff by the sounds of it which might help by treating "as if" whilst waiting for an official diagnosis.

I'm waiting for them to come back to me with their next course date.

Maybe there is something like that in your area, which your GP might know about and refer you to in the meantime.
