help please :)

hi all,

so .....ive been raising concerns about my son since he was 18 months old,(hes 4 now)  things just didnt seem 'right'. he was a late walker and struggled with fine motor skills etv etc as he has gotten older is has become more obvious that he cant concerntrate for any length of time, he often does 'dirty' protests towards change, and often claims he cant remember why or how he did certain odd behaviours. the above are just some examples of what alerted us...anyhoo lol

we have always been led to believe that there was either nothing wrong (its just his age!!!!Frown) or it may be low level ADHD, today however the word aspergers has been mentioned by his teacher. reas]ding up on it, it seems my son is being described to a tee!

now im confused, one part of me is really pleased someone is listening and he can maybe get some support at school, another part of me feels so sad i could cry. i feel sad for the difficulties he is and will face in life, and a bit scared for him and confused trying to understand the world through his eyes.

sorry for waffling lol just looking for some been there stories

thanks

  • Having Asperger's just means someone has a different balance of skills and deficits to the norm, the so called "spiky profile".

Myself and both my daughters have ASCs.  It isn't the end of the world, you will have challenges for sure, but it's really important that you focus on getting him assessed and get the supports he needs as the earlier he starts getting those the better and waiting lists are usually long.  I wouldn't delay going to your GP to ask for an ASC referral.

Getting him supports is the best thing you can do for him, alongside showing him you love him no matter what his issues are.
