How can you access your medical notes for when you were a child if you have lived abroad for a long time?

So far I've hit brick walls. I left in 1999 for good, and it's always possible they've been scrubbed from the system anyway.

I caught sight of some of them by accident in the early 90's. It's possible I wouldn't need to look for any kind of diagnosis if it's clear that by the understanding of the times the same thing as now is being described.

I never really felt that I there was any honesty about what was going on with me as a child and as an early teen too, either from family, or teachers, or school, or the shrinks that saw me.

  • My GP surgeries records are now on computer, it only has records from when it was first installed. I asked my GP where all my old paper records were. His reply was the filing cabinets were installed into the surgery attic and all the records are still in their correct places. It might be worth contacting the surgery you were registered at. They have to keep the records for a considerable time, or until they are transferred to the computer system.
