Resources for encouraging autistic people to participate in sport: individual and team

Hello everyone,

I enjoyed Sports Days and games of rugby, football and hockey at school. However there were times where I would not want to be picked for a team even though I merited inclusion in it due to ability. I would be afraid that the other members of the team would not like me or that if we lost a match, over the weekend the teachers and the other pupils/students in the school would be disappointed in us during the week and even hate us.

It had been thought I had been autistic since the age of six and I got my official confirmation from the NHS in December 2014. I now do taekwondo, tennis and fun runs to raise money for charities. It's great fun and I have met many people who have become friends. If I had been more proactive in sport at school or earlier I think I would have avoided a mental breakdown/psychosis in 2013.

What resouces are available for teachers; coachers; trainers etc to encourage autistic children, teenagers and adults to try sporting activities and to stick at them?
