Unable to eat

My parents keep on at me to eat more.

I don't really like food.

When I eat I'm in a lot of discomfort afterwards. I get pain, wind, bloating, everyone feels tight and then I get constipation or loads of mucus, sometimes blood but not very often.

All this has put me off food so now I eat as little as possible, or if I can I just skip meals.

I had tests before, even an overnight stay in hospital and tests showed back nothing except for an infection which is why I was in hospital. But a scan of my abdomen showed no abnormalities, so I guess it's just one of those autistic stomach problems...

My mum is worried about my weight. When I look in the mirror can see my ribs behind my skin showing through. Mum thinks I'm underweight. I did a BMI check and I'm not overweight, I'm just above the amber on the graph.

I just don't know what to do.

I'm not eating because it causes me discomfort but now my parents are keeping on at me.

  • I am sorry of your predicament with food and eating. I would suggest for you to make a journal of everything you eat and take note of how each food affects you, and then, the ones that make you feel worse you can cut out and hopefully substitute it for something kinder to your stomach. Have you tried a gluten free diet? Sometimes gluten can be a major upset for the stomach. I would recommend a return to your GP also, so they can help you with weight loss and guide you better than I. In the meantime eat when you can, little and often.
