Note: Please don't jump into water fasting without educating yourself about it first
So on Sunday evening i finished my 7 day water fast. I have done one 5 day water fast, one 7 day, and one 16 days but this was the first since my autism realization back in December. I can't fully explain my reasons for doing it other than instinct....i feel like mentally and physically i need to rest and stop bombarding my digestive organs with food for a while.
This was by far the most rewarding fast i've done to date, here are some of the things i noticed over the duration of the fast:
- Feeling of lightness
- Brighter eyes when I look at them in the mirror
- Tearful when meditating sometimes but happy tears (mostly when I think about all the people I will help in the future)
- Feel like i'm gliding or floating around my house instead of walking
- Tenderness in my heart, like it is healing and softening
- Feeling more comfortable in my skin
- Lots of mental clarity
- Random smiles
- Pleasant warm tingly sensations in my face occasionally
- Joints more supple, especially my shoulders...arms swinging more freely, knees too. Can’t remember feeling this flexible in my adult life. Did a silly dance and felt like my arms and legs were like spaghetti!
- Inner peace / stillness (maybe initially from all my digestive organs getting a much needed rest)
Difficulties:
Feeling weak some days
Uncomfortable emotions coming up
Dizzy when standing a few times due to low blood pressure
Insomnia (the body is basically in sleep/restore mode all the time so you need less sleep)
Feeling rough sometimes (my best way to describe it)
Breaking out of my normal routines
I read Stephen Harrod-Buhner's book 'The Transformational Power of Fasting' as the fast progressed and found it a really helpful guide. He talks about the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual changes you go through and what to expect. The knowledge/insight he has is quite staggering.
He also writes about how the human heart is now seen as just a pump to move blood around the body whereas it used to be considered an organ of perception (it has over 40,000 sensory neurons so is like a second brain)
The Complete Guide To Fasting by Jason Fung is another i've read and a good start for those who are new to fasting.
Anyway, just thought i'd share my experiences as Number and a few others on here were interested.
