Black lines on nails

I've noticed on some of my toe and fingernails I've got thin black lines. No pain or anything but they're definitely there. I wondered if I'd hit them and caused bruising or bleeding but I don't think I have and it's unlikely I'd have it on my toe and fingernails.

Does anyone here know what this could be? I'm wondering if it's vitamin related. Maybe I need more dairy in my diet?

If you think it's more serious and might need further investigation then I'll call the doctors but my anxiety is so bad I can hardly leave the house. So doctors are a last resort. If anyone knows what these black lines are your Insight is welcome and thanks:)

Please suggest they get advice from a professional.'

    Many thanks,

  • Hi Chloe Mod,

Actually no one gave me advice, Shardovan very kindly suggested what it could be and was actually spot on. It was iron deficiency and I am a lot better now. And Number suggested I could be a zebra which was my doctor's second guess......who knew right!?!

Thanks guys. I appreciate your help all those months ago it helped me a lot that day.

  • And thanks to you 13 for letting us know.  I know that many of us appreciate it when we can learn the outcome of matters we have chosen to comment upon.....BUT OBVIOUSLY WOULD NEVER ADVISE UPON.....(Even though the rule 13 never even existed 7 months ago)

  • I'm sorry it wasn't sooner but I wanted to say thanks and update as I really am grateful for your guys help. I just read about the rule... I'm glad it wasn't around 7 months ago because it was asking here that encouraged me to see a doctor. Thanks again.
