middle of the spectrum ? please help.

Hi all. My son was diagnosed yesterday with asd, but the consultant told myself and husband that our son is in the middle . Could someone please explain what this means ? Is it moderate autism ? We was expecting a diagnosis but was still stunned to hear it as a formal diagnosis, and so we can't remember everything that was said as we were upset. We have very little knowledge about asd and are very eager to find out as much as we can. Thank you x

  • Hi - a mainstream school might "be fine" if and it's a big if, they can truly cater for all his needs.  Schools vary enormously and for some of our children can be sheer hell.  They can have many problems at school, especially when they move to "big school".  Unstructured time, such as playtime, lunchtime etc can prove difficult.   Have a look at the posts on here.  Why do you think the special school wouldn't cater for his needs?  Also, it's important you recognise how autism affects him as an individual so as well as learning from him you can access lots of info on this site, if you haven't done so already.
