middle of the spectrum ? please help.

Hi all. My son was diagnosed yesterday with asd, but the consultant told myself and husband that our son is in the middle . Could someone please explain what this means ? Is it moderate autism ? We was expecting a diagnosis but was still stunned to hear it as a formal diagnosis, and so we can't remember everything that was said as we were upset. We have very little knowledge about asd and are very eager to find out as much as we can. Thank you x

  • My son is nearly seven, he is in a main stream primary school. gets 1:1. He is about to get statemented, I am new to all this so please pardon my ignorance to asd. I am learning through my son as time goes on.

I want him to stay in mainstream school as I believe a special school would not give him a wide range of choice, also I want him to mix with every body and get used to the majority if that makes sense. People have said to me that a special school will cater his needs, there is one near me, I have visited this place, good but not right for him. Are there any independant schools which are small and cater for special needs? I have a tutor for him at home. She has had him for 6 weeks, already he has made big progress. She tells me that a main stream school will be fine if they know how to deal with him

His main problem is speech, I have lots of questions, but I will wait for this reply.
