middle of the spectrum ? please help.

Hi all. My son was diagnosed yesterday with asd, but the consultant told myself and husband that our son is in the middle . Could someone please explain what this means ? Is it moderate autism ? We was expecting a diagnosis but was still stunned to hear it as a formal diagnosis, and so we can't remember everything that was said as we were upset. We have very little knowledge about asd and are very eager to find out as much as we can. Thank you x

So when your doc says middle, it means low emotional understanding high cognitive understanding probably. (the cognitive side is a coping device of autism, cognitive learning in lieu of natural emotional coping or learning).

    So in the middle is good,, long term with the correct support he can increase his emotional learning ability and his cognitive ability. This is good news in a way, but you have work to do, always comforting and explaining the world to him, that is all it takes. Emotional support, structured explained world and heaps of love.
