I've noticed for quite a while that there is real discontent by the lack of provision from NAS and like.

I thought this charity I have come across, based in Northampton, may be useful for someone on here. It is also looking from around the end of this year to start offering an adults' diagnostic serivce provided by an experianced GP

They also offer other services (e.g. counsellors) and family services etc.

 

I know this won't solve everything but hope it goes some way to help someone in need.

  • Have you considered getting an NHS assessment, which you are now entitled to by law, under the Autism Act. Waiting lists can be long, but it would be worth it if you could then benefit from support.

    The problem with private diagnoses is that they exclude the poor and people who rely on benefits or are otherwise economically disenfranchised. The NHS is a public body, and does not discriminate against people on low incomes. In a sense, you are already enjoying a benefit because you could afford private treatment, but not everyone can afford this. So I can understand why the NHS might be wary; it is like preferential treatment.
