My profoundly autistic cousin (I am his next of kin), who is in residential care, needs cataracts removed from both eyes. I am not worried about the op itself - he'll be given a general anaesthetic - but after he goes home he is not supposed to touch or rub his eyes for 'a week or two'. It's impossible to imagine how this can be achieved at all, let alone without distressing him. Does anyone have experience of this?
