Comfortable Headphones

My 12 year old daughter is going on a coach trip to Switzerland with Guides and is really looking forward to it.  As she will be travelling for 36 hours she will need headphones to listen to music or watch programmes.  She can't get in ear headphones to stay in, the large headphones press down on her ears too much and the head band ones are too quiet.  I'm not sure how much is her sensory issues or just being awkward.  Can anyone recommend headphones that their child or themselves feel comfortable?

  • Hello.
Based on what you said in your description, perhaps a bone conduction headset would be a good option? They fit near the ear and rely on slight vibrations to transmit sound, they don't have to be inserted into the ear canal and they can also hang securely behind the head. Some are as cheap as in-ears and I think headphone recommendation sites will have comparable lists to refer to.
I suffered from traditional headphones when I was younger, as I had to filter out noise, my ears hurt at the end of the day and I had to be careful not to drop them. It's a good thing that some brands offer in-ear buds in various sizes and soft leather ear cups, which are very soothing to the wear.
For reference, I now have three pairs of different types of headphones, each of which has been with me for over two years. It's great to see your concern for your daughter's needs in terms of headphones, it's very heart-warming.
