Obssessive behaviour around going to the toilet

Hi

My nine year old son, Harry often displays very typical repetitiive behaviours such as repeating phrases and using objects and toys to make sounds.  He can use some speech but this is very limited.  He changes these behaviours about once a month.  He has recently developed an obssession with going to the loo for a wee and he can do this up to 20 times in one hour.  He obviously doesn't need one - I think he likes the routine of going to the bathroom.  He can get very cross and has also tried to hurt himself by pulling his willy and/or twisting it.

Harry is a gorgeous boy but when we try to be firm about his behaviour he becomes very violent and will bite/throw/punch/kick us.

I am hoping that this will be temporary but it is a worry  - especially as we are going on holiday soon.  Has anyone else had any experience of this type of behaviour?

  • Thanks - I may try that although I think he would prize a bolt off - he has real strength!  Another problem is that he has never stayed in his room to sleep and has always come in our room.  We have tried lots of diffrerent methods to get him to stay in his room.  He will sleep in there at the beginning of the evening but he wakes around 7-8 times a night and immediately comes into our room.
