Children taking medicine

Hi! My children are 3 and 4 and both currently awaiting autism assessment. They both have sensory difficulties and refuse to take medicine (calpol etc) from a spoon or syringe. I used to be able to hide it in their juice but now they won’t drink that either. My youngest doesn’t talk much but my eldest tells me he notices the change in colour and taste and also says it’s “hot”. Does anyone have any suggestions of different brands of paracetamol or ways of hiding it?
Thank you and I hope I’ve provided enough information Blush

  • Can they take a pill, especially a capsule as those have no taste? I find it easiest to swallow in a lump of food, chew the food then just before swallowing shove the pill into the middle of the lump and swallow it, usually hides any taste and doesn't get stuck in my throat. If the children understand why they need the pill they should want to co-operate rather than have have the bad tasting one.

  • Apparently chewable paracetamol and ibuprofen - for children - are available. Might be worth a try.
