Occupational Therapy

Hi everyone,

My son is currently going through the process of his Communication Disorder Assessment Clinic (CDAC) and it seems that in addition to the intensive Speech and Language Therapy that he will require, it has been suggested that he may need occupational therapy to help with his sensory issues.

I was wondering if anyone has experience with occupational sensory therapy?

Thanks

  • hi there,

I take my little boy to occupational therapy as he was referred due to sensory issues. It amazing how much it has helped him, before i went to oc i found shopping difficult as lights sounds would upset him he was very anxious out and about even a day at the park or at a party he couldnt cope.

He has been at it a year and his tantrums and anxiety has completely turned around he is amazing now when were out shopping he loves going out on day trips. The oc therapist will go through different sensory issues and find ways of helping what best suits your child ,for my son it was a weighted back pack its amazing it helps him cope with anxiety when he is out with me shopping, he also has sensory toys that keep him calm if he feels stressed.

He also loves deep pressure and we realsed we could go to our bowling alley as their is a childrens play area with a ball pool and he loves it :) its great because he is mixing with the other kids and learning great social skills:).The OT also will have a room with all climbing and swings and slides all to help balance and strengthen muscle tone i didnt realise that my son had low muscle tone until therapist pointed it out to me but with therapy it all strengthens up and he has great balance now:) it really helped me and my little boy it has been a great experience:)!!
