Making friends and socialising online

I’m wondering if anyone on here knows of anything online - a forum or something (apart from this of course!) - which is a good place for younger autistic people to chat online about lighter subjects maybe? My son is out of college at the moment due to anxiety issues and he’s feeling very isolated and would love to make some friends online. I don’t think he wants to talk about heavy stuff like the challenges of autism and mental health - I think he just wants something more social and lighter. Can anyone recommend something online that would be suitable? I’ve looked but can’t really find anything. It doesn’t have to be something that is just for autistic people. It also needs to be safe of course - as we are quite careful about privacy etc. Any ideas anyone? Thanks :)

  • Thanks for your response. Yes - I was surprised there wasn’t more when I looked. It strikes me (even more so after coming on here) that there are loads of autistic people who want some level of social contact - but that finding ways to do that in a way we feel comfortable with is the challenge. So many of us struggle with social anxiety but it doesn’t mean we don’t want friends at all - often autistic people are very lonely and would like friends. My son would definitely like to have friends - but at college he could not talk to people so could not make friends and he felt so lonely there. Things got so stressful for him there that he’s temporarily stopped going at all - so is now even more isolated. It’s a vicious circle.
