Awaiting diagnosis

Hi, I'm new here, I took my 8 year old for an ADOS assessment yesterday, and have an appointment to go back next Friday, feel quite confused by it all, he engaged in some conversations, ignored the assessor at times,  'played ' by mirroring her games, and the book about feelings, he said he has read in school! So I dont feel this would give a true assessment of him, she was reluctant to offer any feedback until she's read schools report fully, and doesn't feel the need to visit him in school either. When I pushed her she said he does display 'some tendencies,' which doesn't really mean much, so not sure wheather he will be diagnosed or not. To date camhs haven't contacted the SHP who we see for enuresis nor made any contact with SALT although he has no input now from them, so in total I've had 1, 2hr appt, and he's had 1 visit for the assessment, can they really make a clear diagnosis from such little info?

  • Hi there,

I went for the feedback today from my 3yr old daughters ADOS last week and was blown away by the minute detail the doctors look for through play.... For me I felt the doctor and play therapist had her spot on and could tell from the simple things the problems my daughter faces....

Similarly I have twin 8 yr old boys and 1 of which is waiting on an assessment, whilst he isn't as severe as my daughter he's unfortunately slipped under the net and therefore has little or no support in school, the ADOS assessment is strutted in such a way that it looks for specific things according to your child's age and understanding..

Whilst I was a little scepticaor prior to today, I now fully trust the finfringe fromEthel assessment, even though not the best news a parent can hear, it's certainly helped myself and husband look at the future with some hope..

    Wish you best of luck
