How to tell if anxiety and ibs

Since Thursday I've had a very painful stomach, can be dull ache or sharp pain and just general discomfort. Can be all over my stomach or at my sides as well Also feeling sick at times and my stomach is making noises. It started on Thursday but it's still like it now, it eases up and then starts up again and can get severe at times. Also got wind and can feel my stomach like it's got butterflies at times.

My question is, based on the above do you think this is anxiety and ibs or do you think it is a stomach bug or something like that? I'm super scared of getting a stomach bug but I'm really worried this is it. But I do suffer from anxiety and ibs so I know this could also be the cause. But I'm not sure. Surely if it was a bug it would be easing by now, and I would have been sick? Just really don't want to be bad.

  • You should see a doctor just in case. It probably is just anxiety, I get it bad and it can last for days and days. But it's best to speak with and see a doctor to make sure everything's ok. Try not to worry that will have a negative effect. Try to keep calm and maybe use a hot water bottle and see if that helps things, it does wonders for me. Hopefully you'll be feeling more like it soon.

  • Well stomach problems can cause anxiety, because of the connection between the gut and the brain. If you are sick or if you ate something bad for your stomach, then that can affect your mood. I don't know if you're constipated, have diarrhea, or what kind of things you ate, but I think a doctor's visit could help you a lot, especially if the stomach pain lasted for a few days already.

  • Stomach pain is such an incredibly common problem that everyone has relatively frequently. Anxiety can definitely cause stomach problems - it can often be a vicious circle. I would not worry if I were you unless your symptoms are fairly constant for over a week. If that happens I would ask your GP about it, but it’s most likely nothing to worry about. Take care and try not to worry too much.
