Hello all, I am in the very early stages of trying to set up a structured executive dysfunction support system online. I am looking for interest/ potential joiners!
((Executive dysfunction = significant issues with the 'CEO' processes of
the brain... including planning, prioritising and follow through, time
management, organisation, self management and impulse control, controlling
attention, initiating and staying with tasks, and task switching.))
Good day all.
Throughout life I've been acutely aware of the effect that lack of
structure can play in exacerbating executive function issues, in my case
due to a cocktail of ASD and ADHD.
So at the moment I've become really interested in trying to replicate the
sort of structured human contact that has been proven to be best at keeping
me clearer of the EF cobwebs. :) I would like to build this to
facilitate more people!
At the moment this would involve setting up short 5 minute "check-ins" for
a person, at self pre-set times throughout a given day where they briefly
connect with another member from the support system. Initially this would
be via messenger or Whatsapp according to preference. This process will
ideally develop to be well-regulated with the ultimate goal of having a
grounding, focusing and facilitative effect, matching people who share some
similar motivations and interests and raising feelings of optimism and
buoyancy.
This is something I have been chewing on for a while, I am keen to see who might like to get involved. The first step is to gather interested people and communicate with
each one individually about their particular needs and preferences/
requirements or suggestions. Ultimately my goal is to facilitate support
that is as smooth, engaging, supportive and helpful as possible for each
person. Each approach will be individualised, you can be involved as much
or as little as you want or at intermittent times, and there is no pressure to
have any mounting goals to be met on the days you are involved - we do
really understand how with EF difficulties it can be a blessing just to be
able to apply some attention to a few positive things or be able to break
free from hyperfocus lock-in!
The newly formed private facebook group is called Executive Function
Support, with a picture of a colourful radiating brain. I would love you to
join if you feel structured human connection could potentially help ground
you. For those who join, I will get in touch with you regarding your preferences
and hopes or simply give more information (my admin name is Pip Singer).
The system is in the dawn of its early experimental development stage so
any early input or interested member fodder would be much appreciated. :) Please do not be put off by a small group, this is my first post attempting to invite members!
Much thanks, and I hope we can help each other out in future!
Kirsty
