Changes

Hi there so just a little rant tbh.

My autistic son is hypersensitivite so the doctors and nursery have recommended to try use ear defenders for him to hopefully reduce the melt downs. Unfortunately he doesn't like anything on his head thats out of the ordinary. He only has just started wearing hoods occasionally and even that can be a nightmare sometimes.

I just feel like the ear defenders sound like an absolutely amazing idea but that it's just gonna be a waste of time and that we're not gonna get any luck with it.

  • Unfortunately I think there is often a lot of 'trial and error' with finding the right solutions. My son and I are both autistic, with sensory issues being amongst the biggest impact in our day-to-day lives. We've tried loads of different things in teh past that haven't helped much like weighted blankets, flare ear plugs and sensory/stim toys. We have found things that have helped too (Ear defenders have worked for him and I have some noise cancelling headphones). It can be a bit hit and miss though as we are all so different.

The school have some ear defenders and my son is given these during noisy assemblies - perhaps you could ask the nursery if they have some you could borrow to try?
