i was having a wee read through some of my childs reports from over the past few years and have confused myself!! his report says that due to him using only a few words at the age of three the diagnoses criteria for autism (rather than aspergers syndrome) had to be utilised. it then went on to say that his overall profile would be in keeping with that of a young person with autism and therefore meets the criteria for his diagnoses. and that it is felt that his difficulties would best be described by the term high functioning autism and strategies that one would use for a young person with aspergers syndrome would be of benefit to him. another report from a psychologist mentioned him having autism, and no mention of aspergers or high functioning autism so what do i call it?? autism or aspergers?
